On Wednesdays We Wear Pink! OOTD

So, today is the 10th Anniversary of the film Mean Girls… (where does the time go…. I feel so old), and anyone who is anyone knows that Mean Girls wear pink on Wednesdays!  So, albeit only a flash of pink, I thought it was apt to bring you a quick outfit of the day post wearing pink!   Also the fabulous Becky from The Ramblings of Mrs BeBe had post an OOTD wearing this very same skirt (you can see her post here) and as always this woman looked amazing, so I have attempted, not that well to be fair, to recreate the look with what I currently have in my wardrobe! I love this girl’s style, she always looks so stylish!

I have had this skirt, which is part of The Cut range brought out by Evans earlier this year, for a while now.  I was unsure about this range when it first came out, but it also intrigued me, so when this skirt was reduced to £15.00 I snapped it up.  It is of a lightweight stretch material with full elastic waist.  I was unsure whether to size up, but stuck to my usual UK24, and luckily it was spot on with minimal VBO.  This skirt is still available at the sale price of £15.00, but now only available in sizes 30 and 32.  It is a fab addition for anyone’s Summer wardrobe.

Necklace – Bespoke piece from Black Heart Creatives

I took some pics of this skirt previously with a white vest, denim jacket and some Converse-esk pumps, but when I had a photo clear out on my phone accidentally deleted the pics before I had actually put a post together…. Doh!  I did however post this as an OOTD pic Instagram, so feel free to have a peruse over there.

So apologies for the delay in bringing this little bit of pinkness to you, but probably for the best with it being the Mean Girls Anniversary today…

Do you wear pink on Wednesdays?

I also have a giveaway running this week, be sure to check it out here.

Chub Rub Fought the Fatty and the Fatty Won! (Including Blog Giveaway)

So, you will have seen with summer upon us I recently ventured into the World of the Maxi Dress… having found an amazing dress at Taking Shape.  You can check out my post about it here.  Unfortunately, I don’t think there are many of us fat babes out there that haven’t suffered the discomfort of “Chub Rub”….. and in the past I can say that this has steered me away from the nice pretty frocks and skirts in the past, and I have just sweat my bits off in trousers and leggings for the duration of the nice weather, albeit somewhat limited here in the UK, it does happen from time to time!

During one of my recent visits to my local Taking Shape store, I came across the amazing Easy Breezy Short!  These shorts are made of lightweight material, similar to leggings,  they are described as Taking Shape‘s secret weapon against chafing under dresses and skirts. The shorts are made of cotton blend and have a full smooth elastic waistband for a comfortable and supportive fit.  They come in white and black and sizes XS (UK14) up to XXL (UK26),  but I think they would definitely fit if you were even a size 28 or even a 30!  They come up quite high on my body, being a shortarse, but for me this is ideal, I do like to feel my blubber is all snug in my pants, tights and now my Easy Breezies!

I was very kindly gifted a pair in black, size L (UK22) to review.  I have sized down, as I wanted the shorts to sit snug to my body to avoid too much visibility under a garment, and to be fair, I think I could have gone down to a M (UK20)…. I wanted to bring these awesome items to your attention, if you haven’t found them on your own already, as I think many of us can benefit from these during the warmer months (if we get any this year).

image

I wore my shorts all day, and have to say that I never once felt like I had anything additional to the norm  underneath my dress, uncomfortable or hot!  I seem to remember another customer mention in store that when she has worn hers the material was such that when it was cool they kept her warm and when the weather was warmer they almost kept her cool… How amazing is that!?!?!?!?  The only thing I was a little conscious of, and its just a personal thing, was I wore these with a mid length dress, shorter than my maxi dress, and  I was worried if a gust of wind blew my dress up…. But all was well!

Having now tried these in the black, I am definitely going to buy some in the white to wear under light coloured clothing, and at an amazing price of £8.00 per pair, these are very much purse friendly!

To celebrate reaching 1000 total followers across all my social platforms, the blog, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,  Tumblr, Bloglovin’  (actually 1122 total followers as of today… long way to go, but still a very happy girly!), I have teamed up with Taking Shape to offer a fab giveaway to one of you lovely lot, and that is one pair in white and one pair in black, and some of their Slumber Slippers, so you too can get those summer clothes out of storage, or maybe invest in your first ever maxi dress. as like me you have swayed away previously…. Be sure to take a look at the fabulous dresses available at Taking Shape!

I haven’t actually tried the Slumber Slippers myself yet, but having had a look online, they look mighty toastie for those chilly summer evenings, where it just isn’t cold enough to crack the heating on!  Available in three different colour choices, in S (37-39) or L (40-42) and they come in a 2 Pack!  These little tootsie warmers are machine washable and can be tumble dryed…. Make sure if you win this fab giveaway you let me know how you get on with these….  But if you are not lucky this time, they are a very purse friendly £5.00 for two pairs, that is only £2.50 each!!!!!

Due to only having a WordPress Hosted site currently, please follow the link…. Good luck!

This is a Rafflecopter giveaway!

Roger That!

Florals, and in particular Daisies are everywhere at the moment, and it didn’t take long for me to add some to my ever growing wardrobe…. I really should have another sort out soon!

When I saw the gorgeous Naomi from Diamonds n Pearls in this little number from Matalan and their Rogers & Rogers range, I knew that this was a must have, I mean, it is a staple wardrobe  item, essential and all that isn’t it???

IMG_20140424_170108

This dress was originally £16.00, but by the time I got around to ordering, there were limited sizes and it was reduced to just £11.00!!!  Luckily there was still a size 24 available, so I snapped it up, and even with delivery, it was still only just over £13.00…. Bargain.  The Daisy Print Skater Dress is still available at this rock bottom price, but the only sizes left appear to be a size 18.

Although I have had Rogers & Rogers in the past, we are talking a considerable number of years now, so I was unsure how this would turn out size and quality wise, but I really should not have been concerned.  Sizing I can say was true to size, and very comfortable.  It looks as if it is pulling across my chest a little bit in the pics, but I think it is just the way I am standing as I felt no tightness anywhere with this dress, and nothing across my boozoomers at all.

Having taken the step to try Rogers & Rogers again, I will definitely be back for more, so watch this space for more Rogers & Rogers reviews!

Have the florals invaded your wardrobe and specifically the daisies???  Have you bought from Matalan and Rogers & Rogers recently…. ?

Maxi-million! #OOTD Post ft Taking Shape UK

A few weeks back I was kindly asked to model some pieces at the Taking Shape Summer Look Book event, and obviously it would have been rude not to have come away with at least one item (or may be a few).  Here is a beaut I managed to nab myself on the night…. the Enchanted Lands Dress.  This is part of the Virtuelle range and I am wearing the XL, which is classed as a UK24.  This dress is currently on sale at £39.00.

I had looked at this at a previous visit, tried it on, and for some reason decided against it that day.  This bothered me considerably, so when I got the chance again I snatched it with both hands!

As you can imagine, being only 4’10”, I struggle somewhat with maxi dresses in the Summer, and it makes me sad every year that another one passes and I didn’t get me a maxi… It will not be the case this year… MUHAHAHA!  Clearly this dress is not a maxi, it should be a midi, but it makes an ab fab maxi on this short fat bird!

image

image

As it was a bit chilly this morning, I grabbed a trusty cardi from F&F Tesco, and in order to compliment the overall outfit, my wide fit Emilio Luca X ballet pumps from  Brantano (available here).

image

The only thing I have to keep an eye on with this dress is due to the way the armholes are cut I do keep flashing a bra strap every now and again, but it is a small price to pay, and luckily, now I have my lovely Curvy Kate Lola in  Ivory/Gold, at least it is a pretty bra strap I’m flashing!

To finish off, in aid of World Earth Day 2014 (yes, I realise I am a day late), my most recent Hair Flower of the Month – “Reuse, Reduce, Recycle” – made completely from recycled materials by the ever talented Lisa at Off With Her Head Millinery…. How does this woman know to match her monthly flowers with my wardrobe so well??????  If you are interested in a 3 month taster subscription, you can do so here, 6 month and 12 month subscriptions also available.

Are you a lover or non-lover of the maxi dress????

Easter “Prom Queen” Sunday

So yesterday was Easter Sunday, and like many across the Country, I spent the day with family, my Nan to be precise. As normal I struggled to decide what to where, because obviously I have nothing in my wardrobe…. haha!  But I was continually drawn to my Scarlett & Jo 2-in-1 Floral Prom Dress! I was thinking maybe it was a bit OTT for Sunday Lunch, but then I thought to myself, has that ever bothered me before…. Nah.

This dress, as many clothes do, had been winking, waving and doing everything in its power to entice me over the weeks.  I had seen this on Hannah of Fabulously Fat Fashion, Naomi of Diamonds n Peals and Danielle Vanier, and they all looked gorgeous, so this only added to my wanting…..

I finally gave in last week when Evans had a flash 24% off for 24 hrs… It had to be done!!!!

image

I posted a pic on Instagram and got an amazing response, if I wasn’t already sure I had made the right choice, I was now!  I even made someone’s mind up to buy this dress for a wedding they have coming up, as until this point they had been undecided!

Everything about this dress is a positive in my opinion.  Having seen it on different women so far, it goes to show that it can suit all different shapes and sizes.  If you are big busted, no fear here, as the jersey top to the dress can accommodate all chests as has enough stretch and doesn’t pull at all and is not tight, just pure comfort.  The waist has an elastic band on the outside, which nips you in and gives you an amazing shape.  This was the bit I was most worried about, as I have a wide elastic belt that does have a tendency to roll (if you know what I mean), but I needn’t have worried here as the band is stitched along one side so keep it nicely in place.  I did keep checking it, as this was my concern and it was fine for the entire day!  Being a shorty, the dress is a mid length on me, but to be honest, this length suits me better, but if you are taller then be aware of this should you decide to buy the dress.  I would wear this style of dress every day if I could, and if the bank balance and the Mister could handle the full wardrobe overhaul…. Lol!

I teamed this up with some simple black court shoes and my definite fave custom piece I recently got from Black Heart Creatives, which I think I must have known I would be buying this dress soon when you look at the colours I went for.  They have had an Easter promotion on this weekend, and if you manage to read this before the end of today (Monday 21st April), enter EASTER20 at the checkout and bag yourself a bargain!

IMG_20140420_185204_edit_1_edit

I can’t forget to mention my good friend Lisa over at Off With Her Head Millinery – Milliner to the Stars and I don’t just mean me… Lol! –  and I finished off my look with my February Hair Flower of the Month “Vintage Valentine” (you too can join the club with a 3 month taster subscription here, 6 month and 12 month subscriptions also available).  Again, I think you will agree this flower was made for this dress, which also happens to be part of Scarlett & Jo‘s Spring Romance Collection…. I think it was fate!

I have to say that I absolutely love the Scarlett & Jo range of dresses, there are obviously some I prefer to others, and here is a little peek at some of my faves, and all currently available online at Evans:

Shop Your Stash #1

rsz_1rsz_1rsz_shop_your_stash

Welcome to the Shop Your Stash Challenge. This is all about finding a gem in what you already own and creating a blog post on it. This is to let go a little of the stress that comes with being a blogger – even if it is just once a month. Rummage through your beauty products and climb through those clothes draws. You might surprise yourself!

The fabulous Hollie of Pretty Big Butterflies came up with this fab challenge…. You can read a bit more about it  on her blog here, but basically, as the intro above says, it is all about digging around what we already have in our wardrobe, amongst our beauty products, reviewing something different like a book, restaurant, film, recipe…. You get the picture?

I’m sticking with what I know at the moment, good old FatFashion, although I will spice it up in future months, and although I did post this as an “Outfit of the Day” pic on Instagram, (it was raining on the day the pics were taken hence being an indoor shot) I’ve never got around to the full review this skirt from SimplyBe UK deserves.

IMG_1396107616994_edit

Every time I checked out the SimplyBe UK a few months back, or saw a bloggers wish list post based around SimplyBe UK, this skirt would feature and always blew me a little kiss, or gave me a little wink (yes, I am aware that one day the men in white coats will come for me one day).  This skirt is made of a thick, shiny jersey, and although I was worried that I may need to size up due to the material and style, I stuck with my usual size, UK24, and It is spot on!  I am only 4ft10, and again, had my concerns that it was going to be long, and although it doesn’t look like it does on the model on the website, I don’t think it looks out of place, more of a maxi skirt rather than a midi, and still looks fab with my ever faithful ankle boots from Boohoo, full review on these here.  this skirt is still available here at the affordable price of £25.00…. so what you waiting for…?!?!?!

I didn’t read the reviews on the website before I bought this skirt, as it wouldn’t have affected my decision to purchase it or not, but I have read them today just to see what others thought of it, and although most of the cons raised I disagree with, poor quality, fit etc. I do have to agree that the colour is a little odd…. It clearly states black & pink, but the black is an off-black, if that makes any sense, and does give a look of navy, yet it isn’t a clear navy either!  Bizarre, but I still love it!

I am still in search of the perfect top to compliment this skirt, I am thinking a dip hem style, oversized crop or an 80’s retro batwing, but in the meantime, I teamed it with a very old Yours Clothing 2-in-1 bolero style top and my F&F Kimono cardigan, which has featured on the blog before, and is still available here in sizes 10, 12, 16 and, although low stock, 18, and now with 50% off at £7.00!  I am wearing the UK22, and if your size isn’t on he website, maybe it is in your local store.

I know that a few people have had their eye on this skirt, has it winked and blown kisses at you, have you given in to it’s advances too???  I’d like to hear about it… even if to prove I’m not the only nutter out there!

Make sure to check out the other ladies taking part in this excellent challenge:

Her Name was Lola, She was a Showgirl…

I remember when the only bra’s I could get looked like something your Gran would wear.  A few years back I discovered the World of Bravissimo, and all of a sudden underwear became a pleasure to wear again, but us large chested ladies were still limited.  For me, I couldn’t even consider moving away from Bravissimo, even when I did happen to manage to find a cheaper alternative in my size, they always ended up being a waste of money as they either never fit as well, or lacked the quality and did not last long.  This is rapidly becoming less of a problem with more and more brands realising the need for top quality, pretty lingerie in larger sizes, and they seem to be getting the sizing right too.

Since I’ve been blogging I have seen the name Curvy Kate pop up more and more frequently, and now having a desperate need to replace the last Bravissimo bras I thought I would give them a go, as they had been highly recommended everywhere I looked!

The bra I was particularly interested in was their Daily Boost, available in black, nude, white and mocha.  It looked a fab bra for every day wear, and came highly recommended by Elena over at Frivolous Mrs D, so I ordered the black and nude from SimplyBe, due to be delivered within 10 days from order…. Unfortunately, on the 10th day I received an email to advise me that the items I had ordered were out of stock, and my order could not be fulfilled!  I checked out the other stockists, Debenhams and John Lewis,  but again not in stock in my size 😦  .  With my mind-set on a Curvy Kate addition to my lingerie drawer, I started to look for an alternative option.  Having put the feelers out for some recommendations, Natty Nikki suggested the Lola Black Almond…. What did I have to lose… Nothing!

The bra is padded, which you would think for a well endowed lass like me, I don’t exactly need anymore padding, but it makes this bra just so comfortable!  I had gone away from underwire with the last Bravissimo bras I bought, but I definitely felt I had lost the lift, so have gone back to underwire with the Lola Black Almond, and boy, what a difference!

PhotoGrid_2014-04-17_21_21_04

No overflow or underflow in sight, however, being a larger lady I do have my fair share of under arm fat, but in general this bra gives plenty of support at the sides, and definitely holds the majority of it all in place.  You will note from the pics I have a little more under arm fat on one side than the other.  I think we all have one boob slightly bigger than the other, and this is clearly mine, and even if I was wearing a hammock or a windsock, it wouldn’t make any difference, this under arm fat will always be with me… “Say hello to my little friend….” Lol!

When I was last measured, I came in at a 38HH.  For some reason, and to this day I have no idea why I decided to do this, but I decided when I bought my last bras to go up to a 40…. I think this was because I had bought a cheaper 38HH (trying to be clever) and they were all wrong… boob overflow, tight, the lot.  So there I am thinking, I’ve put on weight, I need to size up, blah blah blah.  But what it boiled down to was quality I think, as this time I have gone back to the sizing I had been measured at and this bra fits like a glove!

All in all, I cannot fault this bra in any way, to the point I have since bought the  Lola Ivory Gold!!

I bought mine from Ebay as at the time that was the only place I could find my size, but here is a list of stockists on the Curvy Kate website here.

Are you a Curvy Kate convert, or are you in need of new lingerie supplier and could it be about to become Curvy Kate?  Share your story with me, I’d love to hear about it.

A Romantic Beach Stroll….

With a number of other bloggers, I was recently contacted by ModCloth asking if I wanted to participate in their “Uniquely You” campaign by creating a cohesive story board of my own using Wanelo.  If you haven’t come across ModCloth before, founded right out of high school by then sweethearts (now spouses), Susan Gregg Koger and Eric Koger– ModCloth has been lovingly built on a passion for remarkable fashion. Today, they are a top e-retailer of indie clothing, accessories, and decor, and provide an engaging shopping experience where you, the customer, can have a voice! In just a few years, they have grown from humble college dorm room to “America’s Fastest-Growing Retailer”…. Who also ship Internationally, including the UK!!  Read more about them and their story here.

In order to take part in their challenge, they would provide me with an image of an article of clothing or accessory and ask that I build an ensemble around it using up to seven other pieces currently being sold on ModCloth, along with some insight into what inspired the look.  Each week ModCloth will pick a winner to be featured on their own Wanelo page with a link back to the creator’s blog.

Wanelo (“wah-nee-loh,” from Want, Need, Love) is an online shopping community bringing together stores, products and people into a single social platform. Users can purchase products off the app after it directs them to the website. Wanelo launched in 2010 and is headquartered in San Francisco’s SoMa district. (It has been likened to Pinterest before.)

I was given 1. Summer Night Stoll Dress in red, available in sizes up to 4x, and affordable at $44.99.  Once I looked at this beautiful dress, and read the little story ModCloth give each of their pieces, I was instantly thinking about a romantic moonlit stroll on a beach on a summer’s evening. With this in mind I headed on to investigate the website to put together the final ensemble and here is what I came up with….

PhotoGrid_2014-04-15_22_21_31

2. Starlight Stoll Sandal – $34.99 (do you see a pattern forming here….?)
3. Romantic Heroine Jacket – $64.99 – to keep the chill off as the summer night creeps in… (Only in a S M L)
4. Chain the Rules Hair Comb – $14.99
5. Laud of the Rings Bracelet in Gold – $24.99
6. Time to Get Down Earrings – $12.99
7. In the Distance NecklaceAlong  – $34.99
8. Hollywood if I Could Sunglasses – $11.99 – for the late afternoon setting sun

I hope you like what I have put together here…. Have you ever bought anything from ModCloth? I’d like to hear about your experience, maybe share your look with me, ModCloth and Wanelo.

Unveiling the April BirchBox

I thought I would do something a little bit different and bring a little bit of beauty into the blog for a change….

I was a very lucky girl at the end of last year when I received a belated birthday gift from my Brother-in-Law & Sister-in-Law, a 6 month subscription to BirchBox UK.  I have to say, that they clearly know me very well (well, I have been married to their brother for nearly 10 years now), and they were spot on with this gift…. I flippin’ loved it!  Anything fashion or beauty in orientated is always going to be a winner for me!

So, I thought I would share this month’s contents with you.  The theme is “Good Enough to Eat April 2014”, and they have taken the inspiration from local food markets, the kitchen and all their favourite eateries.  This month’s samples feature delicious scents and food elements.
